Our goal is to help teenagers and young adults realize they have more potential than they realise. Award participants work both independently and with individual mentoring. We believe every young person has an innate sense of purpose. It’s always there, even when it’s not obvious.
Through an international framework that creates life experiences and leadership challenges, we provide Award participants with opportunities to discover themselves, develop their strengths, and harness their abilities, whilst engaging with their community and fostering social responsibility.
How does the Award work?
There are four sections of activity:
Skills
This section encourages Award participants to develop a skill that appeals to them. They learn to set challenging goals for themselves, overcome difficulties and persevere, problem solve, cope with failures, and, most importantly, believe in their abilities.
Physical Recreation
Award participants achieve a personal physical goal relative to their starting point. Undertaking a physical activity promotes self-motivation, self-discipline and perseverance.
Voluntary Service
Award participants have a responsibility to support others in their community. Willingly offering help is an important step towards building a happy and caring community. Giving to others enhances our sense of belonging and strengthens us.
Adventurous Journey
A planned camping trip.
Preparing for and undertaking an Adventurous Journey outside the usual environment is an important step in personal development. It creates new experiences and promotes learning beyond comfort zones.
Perseverance, with personal support from an Award Leader, enables participants to fill their leisure time with positive and productive activities within the community. The Award is non-competitive, with a focus on the personal growth and progression in each of the four sections. There are three levels of Award, which increase in challenge and duration. Those who persist and meet the requirements are awarded a Bronze, Silver, or Gold Award.
Participating in the International Award is an inspiring way to achieve personal milestones whilst participants take full ownership for their own Award journey. The International Award provides international recognition and appreciation for perseverance in the chosen activities: activities that will help participants grow and are aligned to their dreams. Along the way, participants will experience moments of giving back and making a difference.
Gold Award Participant, Dimona Branch, Southern Israel
“I started the Award when I was in the eighth grade. I’m about to go into the 12th grade. The Award plays a significant part in my life. It has given me many opportunities, helped me see and understand other cultures and people better, and taught me a lot about the real world. It also helped me develop my character…to become who I am today.”

Gold Award Participant, Reineh Branch, Northern Israel
“When I was doing the Award, I met many new people, including new immigrants. It was a truly exciting adventure — a perfect journey. The Award changed my life completely. It helped me believe in myself and in what lies inside me. It also given me the self-knowledge that when I go to university to study law, even when my studies are challenging, I will have the determination to complete my studies.”
Lera, 18
Gold Award Participant, WIZO Nir Ha’Emek Youth Village, Northern Israel
“I immigrated from Ukraine with my family and arrived at Nir Ha’Emek boarding school, where I joined the Award. Thanks to the Award, I became very connected to Israel. I travelled, explored new places and met many new people. I met one of my best friends at an Award seminar. I also met people from abroad on a youth exchange. They came to see how the Award runs in Israel.”
